Rayo Vallecano has asked LaLiga to postpone the second-round match against Deportivo Alavés, scheduled for this Thursday. The request comes after the Community of Madrid rejected lifting the precautionary measures that keep the Estadio de Vallecas suspended.

Rayo Vallecano

The alternative is already in place if the game goes ahead: the Estadio ONTIME Butarque, owned by Leganés, would host the clash. The franjirrojo club had reached an agreement to use that venue in case it was unable to play at home.

The Rayo Vallecano said during the early hours of this Wednesday that it has submitted a formal request to LaLiga. The club believes that playing the match away from Vallecas represents a "serious disadvantage" for the club and for its supporters, after it made all the documentation required available to the authorities.

The Community of Madrid, which owns the stadium, denied the lifting of the precautionary measures following the decision announced on Monday afternoon. As the Rayo explained, the competition organizer had not yet responded to the request at the time the statement was issued.

Butarque, alternative plan for the match

If the game is ultimately played against the Deportivo Alavés, the Rayo will do so at Butarque. For their season-ticket holders, the club has announced that they will be able to collect free a ticket of a similar category to their pass, subject to proof of eligibility, at the ticket offices of the Estadio de Vallecas.

Collection will be available this Wednesday, August 19, from 11:00 to 22:00, and on Thursday, August 20, from 10:00 to 20:45. The club also said that during the morning of this Wednesday it will provide details of the ticket sales process for fans who are not season-ticket holders, always on the assumption that the match ends up being played at Butarque.

The precautionary suspension of the Estadio de Vallecas concession was issued at the end of July, after the Community of Madrid detected serious security shortcomings. The audit commissioned by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport pointed to a "situation of widespread obsolescence" and a "severe breach of regulations" that affected the safety and operational readiness of the venue.

For its part, the club filed a precautionary measure seeking permission to play its first home match in LaLiga at Vallecas, arguing that the stadium was "fit".
