The search for a left-back continues to take up a large part of the work of the Celta sporting department. With pre-season getting closer and closer, at Balaidos they want to speed up the arrival of reinforcements for a position considered a priority by Claudio Giraldez. Among the names they are considering, Abel Bretones stands out.

His ability to cover the entire flank, his recent experience in LaLiga and his room for growth make him a very attractive option for the Vigo club. In addition, the player is taking a keen interest in the possibility of joining a project that will compete in Europe next season.

Bretones arrived at Osasuna last summer after shining at the Oviedo, where he was one of the most important pieces of the team that fought for promotion. The Navarrese club invested close to 2.8 million euros to secure his services, a figure that serves as a reference for a possible negotiation this summer.

The arrival of Javi Galan during the winter transfer window significantly reduced his role in the second half of the campaign. That situation has opened the door to a possible change of scenery, although the final word will be with Osasuna.

Teams from the English Championship and Venezia are also keeping a close eye on the full-back's situation. Even so, the Vigo option is especially appealing to the player, who sees the chance to take part in European competition as an important step in his career.

The operation is still in an initial phase and talks are progressing cautiously. In the meantime, the sporting department keeps other alternatives open for the same position. Among them is also Jesus Vazquez, another of the candidates still on the table.

Celta will kick off pre-season next July 6 and the goal is to give Giraldez a squad as clearly defined as possible from the first training sessions. In that scenario, Abel Bretones is presented as one of the best-placed options to occupy Celta's left flank.
