The future of Dani Ceballos once again crosses paths with Betis. The player, through people in his closest circle, has once again put on the table his intention to return to Heliópolis and find out what the green-and-white club’s willingness would be regarding a possible deal this summer.

For now, the Betis sports management is working with other priorities. The club needs to generate capital gains to balance its accounts, with Sergi Altimira and Nelson Deossa among the names earmarked for possible sales. At the same time, the sporting planning is already moving with several positions marked: a forward and a left-back appear as important targets, with the Brazilian Kaiki as an option that appeals.

Even so, Betis has not made any formal move for Ceballos. There are, however, the usual contacts between people close to the player and the club, a path that anticipates another summer with the Utrera native’s name very present in Betis news. His qualities are still highly valued at the club: leadership, quality, and a personality that also earned him the respect of Santiago Bernabéu and Florentino Pérez.

Ceballos’ sporting situation, however, has changed. His prominence at Real Madrid has diminished, and after playing little under Xabi Alonso, the arrival of Álvaro Arbeloa ended up pushing him even further away from the team. At 29 years old, the midfielder considers himself at a mature stage with room to prove he still has the football to compete at the highest level.

The price and contract, keys to the deal

Real Madrid would also have a lot to say in any negotiation. Although he is not part of the sporting plans, the white club values Ceballos above the eight million indicated by Transfermarkt. Last summer, Marseille was very close to closing his signing for 15 million euros, divided into 11 million fixed and four million in variables, before the player stopped the deal at the last minute.

At Chamartín, they acknowledge that his value has dropped due to his reduced participation and having only one year left on his contract, but their demands would not stray too far from that proposal agreed with Marseille. The electoral context at Real Madrid, open until June 7, also halts any moves, as does a personal matter of the player himself.

The salary is another sensitive point. Betis would not place Ceballos on the same salary level as Antony, Isco, and Lo Celso, the highest paid in the squad. To return, the Utrera native would have to adjust his figures to Betis’ economic reality in exchange for a long contract, something not considered impossible since last summer he already indicated that he was willing to reduce the salary he earns at Real Madrid.

Ajax has him well placed on their agenda within their sporting restructuring, several Serie A clubs have inquired about his conditions, and from Arab countries, there have also been very high contract offers.

In sporting terms, Ceballos fits into the renewal Betis needs in midfield. With Altimira and Deossa on the way out and Amrabat returning to Fenerbahçe, Pellegrini needs to reorganize the midfield. The Utrera native would bring ball handling, experience on big stages, and would occupy a youth academy spot on the European list, a relevant detail for the Champions League alongside the cases of Junior, Álvaro Valles, Ángel Ortiz, and Pablo García.
