Konate and Huijsen to start against Valencia

Jose Mourinho revealed one of the main changes to the line-up for the clash with Valencia.

"Despite Militao and Rudiger having played an excellent match, it is easy to understand that tomorrow Ibrahima Konate and Dean Huijsen will play," he said.

Therefore, Konate and Huijsen will form the centre-back pairing, while Militao and Rudiger are set for the bench after featuring in the European game against AEK.

Vinicius is still searching for his best form

Mourinho admitted that Vinicius Junior is still a long way from the level expected of him, although he remains fully confident in his ability to get him back there.

The coach believes the Brazilian needs to keep working and feel backed by his team-mates, but he also made it clear that his place in the starting XI will depend on the team's collective needs.

"The team must always come before any player," he said.

Therefore, he did not confirm Vinicius' place in the starting XI against Valencia, although he will continue looking for ways to get him back to his best level.

Valverde earns Mourinho's praise and Guler is carrying knocks

The coach highlighted the leadership of Fede Valverde, whom he sees as an example to his team-mates for his professionalism and commitment.

"Being captain of Real Madrid is not easy," he said.

He also explained that Arda Guler had been carrying some physical issues, which is why he decided to rest him in the match against AEK. He did not specify whether those knocks will affect his involvement at Mestalla.

European fatigue shapes the minutes management

Mourinho admitted the team are arriving with little rest after their recent trips, although he insisted the players are feeling positive.

"The players' feedback is positive. Obviously it will be difficult, but tomorrow we will be there," he explained.

The Portuguese coach stressed the need to share out the minutes and keep the squad fresh, especially against a Valencia side that has had the whole week to prepare for the game.

Despite seven straight wins, Mourinho expects one of the toughest matches of the season at Mestalla.
