Julen Lopetegui, José Luis Mendilibar, Eduardo Berizzo, Eduardo Coudet and Éder Sarabia are the five coaches linked to the Blanquiazul bench. However, the latest reports complicate the options for the first two, while Berizzo and Sarabia are gaining prominence as more accessible alternatives.

RCD Espanyol

The elimination of Espanyol from the Copa del Rey against Sestao River (4-3) led to the sacking of Manolo González. Now, the sporting directorate led by Monchi is looking for a coach who can turn around the delicate situation facing the Blanquiazul side in LaLiga.

The five candidates for the Espanyol bench

Julen Lopetegui: was one of the first names linked to the club, according to COPE and Estadio Deportivo. However, the coach intends to honor his contract with the Qatar national team, so his arrival appears to be virtually ruled out.

José Luis Mendilibar: another coach with extensive LaLiga experience who is liked for his ability to manage difficult situations. However, Estadio Deportivo says he has not yet received any call from Espanyol.

Eduardo Berizzo: the Argentine is available and knows Spanish football inside out after his spells at Celta, Sevilla and Athletic. His immediate availability makes him one of the most accessible alternatives.

Eduardo Coudet: the former Celta and Alavés coach has also appeared in the betting, although the latest information suggests he would not be one of Monchi's priorities.

Éder Sarabia: is the latest name to join the list. ESPN reported his candidacy first, later picked up by AS and La Grada. The former Elche coach is available and could step in immediately.

Monchi will have to decide in the coming days

With Lopetegui practically ruled out and Mendilibar with no known contact, Berizzo and Sarabia appear as two interesting alternatives, although there are still no confirmed advanced negotiations.

In the meantime, Sergio García, coach of the reserve team, will take charge of the side on a provisional basis and will lead Espanyol this Friday against Villarreal. The club's intention is to reach a fundamental decision as soon as possible in an attempt to climb out of the relegation places.
