LaLiga brings forward two Jornada 23 matches to December
LaLiga will have two Jornada 23 matches much earlier than planned. The FC Barcelona-Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad-Real Madrid games, initially scheduled for the weekend of February 7, 2027, will be moved to the first week of December 2026 due to the Supercopa de España being held in Istanbul. That means there will be a new extra matchday in Comunio with these two fixtures.
As El Partidazo de COPE has reported, the matches between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, and between Real Sociedad and Real Madrid, will be played during the first week of December, with December 2, 3 and 4 as the announced window. For now, the exact kick-off times and definitive dates for each game are pending official confirmation.
Both matches are part of the Jornada 23 of LaLiga EA Sports, set for the weekend of February 7, but the four teams involved will be competing in the Supercopa de España at those dates.
The Supercopa de España is behind the change
The 2027 edition of the Supercopa will be held in Istanbul from February 2 to 6, with Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid as the participants.
Barcelona and Atlético will face each other in the first semi-final on the February 2, while Real Sociedad and Real Madrid will play the second semi-final on the February 3. The big final will take place on the February 6.
Holding the tournament on those dates means the league calendar has to be reorganised, with the two fixtures between the four participants brought forward.
They will coincide with the second round of the Copa del Rey
The new scheduling of the matches lines up with the second knockout round of the Copa del Rey. However, this is not a problem for the four affected clubs, as they are exempt from the competition's early rounds due to their participation in the Supercopa.
Fantasy managers, take note: a very unusual Jornada 23
Bringing forward these two games will force managers to approach Jornada 23 differently depending on the fantasy platform they use, since each game has its own rules for handling the rescheduled fixtures.
On Comunio, these two matches will be played as an extra matchday, in which only players from Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid will score points. This will allow users to set up a specific lineup for these two games, regardless of the Jornada 23 that will be played in February.
However, in other games such as LaLiga Fantasy, the situation will be much more complicated. Managers will have to prepare and save their Jornada 23 lineup more than two months in advance, before these rescheduled matches begin, and they will need to anticipate which players could be injured, suspended or have lost their starting spot when the rest of the matchday is played in February.
Therefore, planning will be crucial, especially on platforms that require the full lineup to be locked in so far in advance. You will need to keep an eye on the rules and any possible adjustments that each fantasy game announces to manage this exceptional situation.
