The Uruguayan midfielder, who left Getafe last summer for River Plate for around six million euros, could return to the Coliseum in the next winter transfer window. His limited role in Argentina and the departure of Eduardo Coudet are fueling rumors of a possible return.

Getafe CF

The name of Mauro Arambarri is once again linked with Getafe CF just four months after his move to River Plate. According to the specialist account covering blue-and-white news @Bordalismoo, work is being done on the possibility of bringing the Uruguayan midfielder back during the January 2027 transfer window.

For now, there is no official confirmation and it has not been possible to independently verify the existence of talks between the two clubs. However, the player's sporting situation in Argentina has changed considerably since his arrival.

From a major signing to a secondary role at River Plate

Arambarri arrived at River Plate last June as a direct request from Eduardo Coudet, who backed the Uruguayan to strengthen the midfield of the Argentine side.

The deal involved an investment of six million euros for 100% of his rights, a significant amount that could complicate any negotiation for his exit just a few months later.

However, his time in Argentina is not unfolding as expected. Between an ankle injury and a lack of continuity, the former blue-and-white player has not managed to establish himself in the starting line-ups.

The departure of Coudet and the arrival of Leonardo Ponzio on the bench have also not improved his situation. Arambarri has barely played 94 official minutes since the change of coach, spread across four matches, and afterwards he has continued to find no opportunities.

In fact, the midfielder stayed on the bench in the match played against Racing last October 25, a new sign of his secondary role.

A return that would fit Bordalás' needs

The possible return of the Uruguayan would have an obvious appeal for Getafe. José Bordalás knows his qualities perfectly, after turning him for years into one of the most important pieces in his system.

In addition, the Madrid club has felt the impact of the departures of Arambarri and Luis Milla, two players who brought balance, intensity and personality to the midfield.

Bringing back a player who knows the club, the competition and the demands of his coach could be interesting for strengthening a squad that is going through sporting difficulties.

That said, the financial side appears to be the main obstacle. River Plate made a major investment just a few months ago and Arambarri is under contract until December 2028, meaning any deal would need the approval of the Argentine club.
