The friendly for the albiceleste brought a particularly significant piece of news for Julián Álvarez. The attacker netted Argentina's fifth goal against Burkina Faso, in a match clearly dominated by the South American side, against an opponent who featured a number of youth players and arrived in Buenos Aires just five hours before kick-off.

It was a goal the forward had been expected to score. Until now, Álvarez had played 173 minutes with Atlético de Madrid, without finding the net and adding one assist. His output also had not yet reached the level he had shown at other times, partly due to the physical setbacks he suffered during the first weeks of the competition.

The Argentina national team has helped him regain prominence. The ‘Spider’ had already started in the friendly against Bolivia, although on that occasion he failed to score. Against Burkina Faso, though, he found the back of the net and managed his first goal of the season.

The season's start comes after a busy summer for the Argentine. During the World Cup, he publicly expressed his intention to change clubs, but he ultimately stayed at Atlético after the red-and-white club refused to sell him to a direct rival such as FC Barcelona.

Diego Pablo Simeone has tried to manage the forward's physical condition carefully during these opening weeks. Álvarez is still looking to regain consistency and match sharpness after those problems, while he faces a new season defending the shirt of the Madrid side.
