Obed Vargas could change his destination this season if Atletico Madrid decides to open the door to a loan. Real Betis, Valencia and Getafe have already made their interest known in the Mexican midfielder, although at the rojiblanco club there is still no decision made.

Atlético de Madrid

The situation is moving around a clear idea: that the 21-year-old player can get more playing time. According to various sources cited by ESPN, the three teams have asked about the possibility of bringing Vargas in on loan, but at the Atletico they insist that his departure is not guaranteed.

Competition in midfield has increased over the summer. The side coached by Diego Simeone signed Morten Hjulmand and renewed Koke, while Pablo Barrios, Johnny Cardoso and Rodrigo Mendoza are also among the options for the middle of the park. With minutes being shared out, it is not ruled out that one of the young players could be sent out on loan to gain prominence.

Vargas arrived at Atletico during last winter's transfer window, as did Rodrigo Mendoza, as a bet for the future. Coming from Seattle Sounders FC, the Mexican international already has Spanish passport and took part in 13 matches during the second half of the season, eight of them as a starter.

Betis appears to be the most persistent club

Among the teams interested, the Betis is the one that has advanced the most in its interest in the player. The Andalusian club has been tracking Vargas for some time and maintains a familiar line of work with Mexican players, a market in which it has already been active in recent deals.

In January, ESPN reported on the importance of Manu Fajardo, the verdiblanco sporting director, in the signing of Álvaro Fidalgo. That prior monitoring helps explain part of the current interest in Obed, although the final decision will depend on what Atletico considers for his sporting development.

From the midfielder's camp there is no urgency to resolve the situation. Although Vargas has not had all the minutes he was expecting, they value the progress he has made in recent months under Simeone.
