Mourinho wants to get rid of these 3 players
Mourinho wants to reduce the squad before finalizing the definitive plan. Real Madrid's squad currently has 26 players, but the coach only considers 20 available plus the long-term injured: Militao, Rodrygo and Mendy.

The margin is tight. After it was confirmed that Thiago Pitarch will remain involved with the first team, the numbers leave three names under watch: Asencio, Camavinga and Mendy himself.
The coach's message came after the Budapest match and left little room for interpretation: “I want a short squad, 20 players plus those who are currently injured”. With that idea on the table, the club is working with a scenario in which three players are still surplus if no moves are made before the transfer window closes.
The Real Madrid has already made a major effort to shape the team to Mourinho's liking. The investment reaches 225 million euros across six signings: Diomande, Cucurella, Dumfries, Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Carlos Espí. The deal that was supposed to complete the plan was Rodri, but the City midfielder left the club without that option after choosing Barcelona. For now, no new push is expected for another midfielder.
A different possibility does, however, appear: reinforcing the heart of the defense again if Asencio ends up leaving and a convincing offer arrives. The academy player, for now, has taken a firm stance and repeats that his intention is to stay.
Three files still open
Mourinho's preference for a short squad has a sporting and day-to-day explanation. The coach believes it is key to make use of players who can cover multiple areas, such as Güler or Bernardo Silva, who can be used both in the attacking front and in interior positions. Bellingham offers similar flexibility, and Dumfries has even been tested as an interior player. In that scenario, accumulating players with limited minutes and few chances of taking center stage can erode the working atmosphere.

MDCamavinga is one of the situations the club continues to monitor closely. The Madrid side still hopes to generate income from his departure, although during the summer they have not received a serious offer. The Frenchman has made it clear that he wants to stay, but a proposal from a top-level team could change the picture. The club would not put obstacles in the way, although Mourinho has been surprised by his preseason and by the level of work shown in training.
Endrick2.550.000€+330.000€ -
DLThe case of Endrick seemed delicate, but the club ultimately halted his loan move at Mourinho's decision. That has shifted part of the attention to Mendy. At left-back there is an excess of players, and the coaching staff has few guarantees with the Frenchman due to his injury history. Madrid wants to resolve his situation, although the player is not considering leaving.
Raúl Asencio620.000€+50.000€ -
DFAsencio completes the group of names still pending. The center-back is convinced he can earn a place in the project, and he had started preseason with that in mind until suffering a muscular injury in the rectus femoris. The problem will keep him out of six weeks at Valdebebas and makes the arrival of offers even more complicated.
The planning Mourinho is working with is to have every position covered by two options. The surplus is in the heart of the defense, while waiting for Militao's recovery; at left-back, with Mendy practically ruled out of the plans; in the right interior position, despite the versatility of Bernardo Silva; and in the center-forward role. If any of those players leaves, the club will accept it. If all of them stay, then the work will also be considered done.
