The situation is far less worrying than initially feared. Mbappé returned to Madrid this Saturday and underwent medical tests after leaving France's camp. The diagnosis will allow the forward to face a relatively short recovery and, in principle, have enough margin before the Clásico on 25 October against Barcelona, scheduled for 21:00 at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The injury occurred during the Turkey-France match in the UEFA Nations League played in Kocaeli. The attacker put his hand to his knee after the shot with which he put the French side ahead, a goal that ultimately proved decisive for the outcome of the match.

The first reports had sparked concern. Zinedine Zidane, who was making his debut as head coach, conveyed bad feelings after the game and the French federation initially reported a “tendon injury”. Mbappé later left the team hotel to return to Madrid, and France decided not to call up any player to replace him.

The worry was also linked to his track record. It is the same knee that caused him problems last season, when he was out for 12 matches and his performance and minutes were affected in three other games, amid controversy over a supposed incorrect diagnosis.

The schedule awaiting Real Madrid

The estimated recovery window even opens the possibility that Mbappé will try to be available to face Villarreal in two weeks, although his presence will depend on how he progresses over the coming days. After that come the away fixtures against Roma, Sevilla and Leipzig in Madrid, before the Clásico.

The Frenchman's setback adds to the injury of Ibrahima Konaté, who also had to return to Madrid after suffering an issue with the collateral ligament in his right knee. In his case, too, it is expected that he can reach the match against Villarreal after the international break, always depending on how he evolves.
