Berkan Kutlu bursts onto Racing's agenda... with Espanyol as the main competition

Several media outlets place Turkish international Berkan Kutlu among the options being considered by Racing de Santander to strengthen the midfield. Espanyol is also keeping a close eye on the player, who is currently a free agent and is assessing the offers on the table.
According to different reports published in Turkey and Spain, Berkan Kutlu is one of the midfielders that Racing de Santander is considering to bolster its squad ahead of the new season. There is no official confirmation from the Cantabrian club, but the name of the Turkish international has gained momentum in recent days.

The main rival in this deal would be Espanyol. The Catalan side has been tracking the player for some time and even showed interest in signing him in previous transfer windows, which is why he is once again among the best-positioned to secure his services. Kutlu, 28, was born in Switzerland and represents the Turkey senior national team, with whom he has played eight international matches. He is a left-footed midfielder standing 1.86 meters tall who can operate both as a defensive pivot and in more advanced positions thanks to his physical presence, athleticism and good ball control.

His career path 

Trained at Sion, he made the step up to Alanyaspor before signing for Galatasaray, where he won several Turkish Super Lig titles. He also had a brief spell in the Serie A with the Genoa and, during the second half of last season, he regained prominence at Konyaspor, where he played 13 matches and scored two goals, showing that he still has a good competitive level.

Over the course of his career, he has amassed more than 240 official appearances, with 18 goals and experience in European competitions, a track record that would make him a reliable reinforcement for any LaLiga side. If Gustavo Puerta finally leaves El Sardinero, Berkan Kutlu's profile would fit as a high-level replacement for the Racing midfield, although competition from Espanyol could complicate a move that, for now, remains in the rumor stage.
