Tsygankov pushes for an exit, with Valencia and Sevilla still watching for an opportunity

The departure of Viktor Tsygankov from Girona seems to be a matter of time, but the club has no intention of letting him go for free with the freedom letter in hand. The Ukrainian international told the club last month that he wants to change his surroundings this summer and believes his future is far from Montilivi following the team's relegation to Segunda División. At 28 years old, he understands 'that the time has come to take on a new challenge, and he hopes both sides find a mutually agreed solution.

The player, who has one season left on his contract, has already officially made his position known through a letter sent via his representative. In it, he makes clear that he does not intend to breach his contract or declare himself in rebellion, but rather to reach an agreement that benefits all parties. 'My sporting future is hardly compatible with the existing project at the club', he states in the document.

According to the player's camp, the Girona had promised to facilitate his exit, but that stance would have changed. The club began by valuing him at 10 million euros, a figure that has cooled interest from potential buyers, given that his contract runs until 2027 and that the player wants to leave the club this very summer.

Pressure between Tsygankov and the sporting directorate has increased in recent weeks. Although the winger continues to train completely normally and maintains a professional attitude, it is not ruled out that the dispute will intensify if the market moves forward without a solution. Even the possibility has emerged that he could decide not to play matches if the situation remains stuck.

The player is also considering negotiating the freedom letter. This option would allow Girona to release the highest-paid player in their squad, an important factor after relegation, while the Ukrainian would have the freedom to choose his destination without a transfer fee.

Since joining from the Dynamo of Kiev in 2023, club that retains 50% of his economic rights in the event of a sale, he has played 119 matches, with a record of 20 goals and 23 assists. He was a key piece in the Catalan side's historic qualification for the Champions League and, last season, he once again became one of Míchel Sánchez's most-used players, accumulating 2,728 minutes and adapting both to the wing and to more central attacking positions when the team suffered absences.

The Valencia are still very much on top of developments, as Carlos Corberán is looking to strengthen the wide areas with an established player. But they are not the only ones. Sevilla is also keeping an eye on the market for opportunities. The Andalusian club needs to add attacking imbalance, and the name of Tsygankov has already appeared among the options being considered by the sporting directorate, especially if he finally manages to sever ties with the Girona.

The uncertainty is no longer so much whether he will leave, but under what formula he will and which club will take advantage of one of the most interesting opportunities the market can offer in the coming weeks.
