Nico Paz will not return to the Santiago Bernabéu for now. The Argentine midfielder will stay at Como after an agreement that allows the Italian club to keep him for 60 million euros, while Real Madrid retains a buy-back option close to 80 million.

The situation has changed in a matter of hours. Real Madrid had decided to activate the nine million euros buy-back clause that would have allowed it to bring back Nico Paz after his growth in Serie A, but the player's wishes and Como's push have ended up opening another route. The good relationship between the clubs has also made it easier to find a formula that prevents his immediate return to Valdebebas.

Como, with Cesc Fàbregas as a key figure in the player's development, has gone all in on keeping one of the main names in its project. According to the deal described, the Lombardy club will pay 60 million euros to secure the rights to Nico Paz, after Real Madrid paid nine million to bring him back. In practice, the cost of the operation for Como stands at 51 million.

Madrid keeps a buy-back route

Nico Paz's continued stay in Italy does not mean a break with Real Madrid. The Whites ensure they will continue to have sporting and financial control over a player they believe has room to return at a later stage. The buy-back clause, set at a figure close to 80 million euros, leaves that possibility open.

For the player, Como has become a favorable environment to keep racking up minutes, competitive weight and responsibility. There he has found continuity, trust and a prominent role within the team, factors that have influenced his decision not to return now to a Madrid squad with very high competition.

Nico Paz left Real Madrid in search of the starring role he did not have guaranteed in the first team. His time in Serie A has strengthened that bet: he has gained maturity, grown in a demanding league and established himself as one of the most attractive pieces in the Lombardy project.

The figure of Cesc Fàbregas has also weighed in on the decision. The coach has known how to give him freedom between the lines and turn him into a standout player within Como's plan. In that context, Madrid avoids cutting short his progress, the Italian club gains time with one of its references, and the player maintains the competitive rhythm he needs.
