Barca's Hand in the Camp Nou! Report of FC Barcelona 5-2 Sevilla
Barcelona and Sevilla faced each other in an important matchday clash with different objectives but with the common need to earn points. The Blaugrana team came into the match aiming to maintain their good form and continue consolidating their position in the upper part of the table, while the Andalusian side sought to cause an away surprise and get closer to European spots. With both teams in need of points and different playing styles, the match promised to be an attractive duel, in which Barcelona aimed to reaffirm their contention in the top zone of the table and Sevilla tried to resist and take advantage of their chances to secure a positive result.
FIRST HALF
In the 8th minute, Barcelona took the lead when the referee pointed to a penalty on Cancelo after a mistimed tackle from Sow. The penalty taker was Raphinha, who with a panenka outsmarted Sevillas Greek goalkeeper. As the minutes passed, Barcelona maintained ball control, while Sevilla remained compact with a defensive block.
In the 18th minute, the referee went to the VAR to review a previous play. In that action, Cancelo had left Carmona on the ground and the ball ended up hitting the defenders hand. Martínez Munuera did not hesitate and, after watching the first replay, signaled another penalty. Raphinha again took responsibility and this time, with a low, well-placed shot to the left, scored the 2-0.
As the minutes went by, the culé side continued to control the rhythm of the game. Shortly after, Gerard Martín featured a great individual play and, upon reaching the opponent's area, tried his luck with the left foot, although his shot was easily caught by Vlachodimos. However, moments later, Barcelona extended their lead even further: after a quick counterattack, young Marc Bernal delivered a perfect cut-back that left Dani Olmo alone, and the attacking midfielder finished first-time with his right foot to put the 3-0 on the scoreboard.
Already in the last play of the half, Sevilla pulled one back. After a great cross from Juanlu from the right flank, Oso struck a well-placed volley that Joan García couldnt stop, making it 1-3.
SECOND HALF
Less than five minutes had passed when Flicks team extended their lead. Following a great individual run by Fermín, the midfielder spotted Raphinha completely free. The Brazilian fired on goal and, with some luck after the ball deflected off a defender, it ended up in the back of the net, signing his hat-trick and the 4-1 on the scoreboard.
In the 60th minute, after a good Barcelona move on the left wing, Cancelo cut inside the area and, after a feint, left Gudelj on the ground. Then in a one-on-one with Vlachodimos, he finished with great skill to score the fifth goal for the Blaugrana side.
Minutes later, Sevilla continued trying to create danger down the flanks and, in one of those moves, took advantage of Barcelonas high defensive line. Swiss player Vargas went one-on-one against Joan García and looked for a placed shot to the right, but the Catalan goalkeeper was providential and deflected the ball for a corner kick.
In the 81st minute, one of the most remarkable moments of the match arrived: after a long time injured, Gavi returned to the pitch and the Spotify Camp Nou gave him a great ovation. However, just two minutes later, Lewandowski also wanted to join the scoring party and, after being alone in front of the goalkeeper, tried a placed shot with his right foot, although the attempt went wide.
In the last play, Sevilla managed to score a consolation goal after a good cross from Oso, Sow took advantage of the 'gift' and headed in the 5-2.
With this result, Flicks side added three more points and stayed top of the standings.
