Maroan Sannadi injured at his peak

Athletic Club

The situation represents another setback for Edin Terzic, who had already lost Gorka Guruzeta to a serious knee injury suffered on October 17 against Valencia. Now, the rojiblanco coach sees another of his forwards go down injured just as he was starting to regain prominence in his lineups.

Maroan Sannadi had carved out a place in the starting XI after beginning the season with limited involvement. The attacker started against Levante, Getafe, AE Prat and Real Sociedad, racking up four starts in a span of only eleven days.

The injury occurred in an incident inside the Donostia area, when Mamadou Sarr fell on the Athletic forward. Sannadi tried to stay on the pitch despite the discomfort, but soon realized he could not run normally. He ended up down on the field and Robert Navarro came on in his place in the 6th minute.

Maroan suffers another physical setback

The setback comes after an especially difficult previous season for the Gasteiz player. On November 3, 2025, he underwent surgery on the meniscus in his right knee, an operation that kept him out of competition until April 5, 2026.

His involvement at the start of the current campaign was also limited. He did not play any minutes against Barcelona, Celta de Vigo or Atletico, while against Sevilla he played 32 minutes, against Elche he featured for nine, and against Alaves he added another 28.

After that slow start with few opportunities, Terzic had begun to back the forward consistently. Now, Athletic are awaiting news on the severity of Maroan's muscle injury, which adds to the team's attacking problems following Guruzeta's absence.
