Andrei Ratiu could be closer to returning to the pitch. DFThe main question mark for Rayo Vallecano remains Andrei Ratiu, although the news about his recovery is encouraging. The defender has responded well to the work done, and it will be tomorrow's session that determines whether he can be included in the coach's plans against Celta.
Beñat San José explained how the player is doing and confirmed that there are no other major physical issues in the squad:
“Ratiu is improving very well. Today's work has gone well. Tomorrow is a key training session to see if he will be available. The other players have no further problems. Just knocks and fatigue”.
For now, Ratiu remains a doubt for matchday 11, although his progress invites optimism.
Conceded goals worry the Rayo coach
Beyond the physical condition of his players, San José acknowledged that the team needs to correct certain defensive aspects. The defeat against Elche and the difficulties encountered in the recent Copa match have highlighted one of the problems that concerns the coaching staff most.
“In football there are streaks. We are working so that they don't score so many goals. If that were the case, we would now be in much better shape. In the Copa match, it was more difficult than normal”.
Despite these difficulties, the coach maintains his confidence in the squad and believes that the game against the Celta is a good opportunity to improve their results.
“There are certain areas to improve. This Saturday is a fantastic opportunity for us. We have players and a team capable of getting results. We have to stay firm”.
The support of the fans at home will be another factor the Madrid-based side will be able to count on, as they look to make the most of their attacking resources.
Beñat San José clarifies who will take penalties after Pathé Ciss's miss
Another issue addressed during the press conference was responsibility for taking the maximum penalties. The recent mistake by Pathé Ciss has opened the debate over who should take the next spot-kicks.
The coach backed the midfielder and explained that the team has several specialists, without naming a single designated penalty taker.
“We have a list of penalty takers. If someone comes in and no one says anything, but if no one comes in there are doubts, as is normal. I'm in favor of the penalty being taken by the player who has confidence. Pathé Ciss will always be one of the great players, with the charisma to take a penalty”.
Finally, San José wanted to recognize the support received from his followers during the trip to Huelva, where he highlighted the connection between the team and the stands.
“First of all, it's about the win. We have to understand the people from the pitch. The other day I really appreciated that they went to Huelva to cheer us on. There was a special chemistry”.
