OFFICIAL: All Copa del Rey matches suspended after Toledo rail tragedy
The RFEF postpones the 24 matches scheduled for today following a serious accident involving two high-speed trains. The Thursday knockout ties are maintained for now, and the suspended games are pending a new date.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided to suspend all matches from the first round of the Copa del Rey 2026/27 scheduled for this Wednesday, October 28, as a result of the serious rail accident that occurred this morning in the province of Toledo.
The decision affects 24 matches that were to be played during the afternoon and evening, including fixtures involving top-flight teams such as Betis, Celta, Valencia, Mallorca, Alavés, Levante and Oviedo.
The Copa del Rey is halted after the rail accident
The serious incident recorded near Urda (Toledo), where two high-speed trains were involved, has caused a tragedy that has shocked the country.
Given the severity of the events, the RFEF has chosen to postpone all the matches scheduled for this Wednesday, a measure that affects both professional teams and clubs from lower categories that were due to play their knockout ties.
Among the suspended matches, the following stand out:
-
Navalcarnero - Real Betis
-
Salamanca - Celta de Vigo
-
Tavernes - Valencia
-
Alcoyano - Mallorca
-
Anaitasuna - Deportivo Alavés
-
Tarancón - Levante
-
Numancia - Real Oviedo
-
Badajoz - Tenerife
-
Xerez - Cádiz
Thursday's matches are maintained for now
For now, the matches scheduled for Thursday, October 29, remain on the calendar, although the situation could change depending on the decisions the Federation makes over the coming hours.
Among the teams due to play their fixtures tomorrow are Sevilla, Getafe and Osasuna.
As for the 24 matches suspended this Wednesday, there is still no official date for them to be played. The RFEF will have to reorganize the schedule and announce the new kick-off times.
Watch out for line-ups and fantasy rotations
This suspension also changes the planning of the Primera División teams, whose coaches had intended to use the cup tie to share minutes and give opportunities to less regular players.
For managers of Comunio, Biwenger, LaLiga Fantasy and other fantasy games, the postponement could disrupt rotation and rest plans ahead of the next league matchday.
You will need to pay attention to the reorganization of the calendar, especially if the postponed fixtures end up being played between league matchdays.
From Comuniate, we extend our condolences to the families of the victims and our support to everyone affected by the accident.
