The reward for Espí comes just a few hours after a performance that was hard to overlook. The Real Madrid forward, Real Madrid, who joined from Levante, played on Thursday the Under-21 match against San Marino and netted five goals in Spain's emphatic 0-13 win.

His arrival puts the young attacker in a position to make his debut with the senior national team. Spain still has two matches to play in this international window: this Saturday it hosts the Czech Republic at 20:45, and next Tuesday it faces Croatia in Split.

Luis de la Fuente has only Roberto Fernández and Mikel Oyarzabal as centre forwards in the squad, with the former still pending his debut. Espí now expands the coach's attacking options.

Ferrán's departure brings the number of absences Spain has suffered during this window up to five. Pedro Porro was initially on the list, but his absence opened the door for the Under-21 Iván Fresneda. Later, Eric García also dropped out, with the return of the Atletico's Le Normand covering for him.

Grimaldo was also left out, a situation that led to Fran García's return three years later. The fourth absence was Nico Williams, for whom De la Fuente decided not to call up any replacement.

The final setback involves Ferrán Torres. The discomfort he has been carrying in his left ankle has not gone away, and the forward leaves the camp, a circumstance that allows Carlos Espí to move directly from the Under-21s to the senior team.
