Espanyol makes the most of the international break to give Gorosabel a run-out, but Puado will have to wait

The squad of Manolo González returned to competition in the middle of the international break, with a goal that went beyond the scoreboard. The coaching staff wanted to keep their players' rhythm and make use of these weeks without official matches to work on the training pitch.

The opponent chosen was the Ipswich Town, a Premier League club, in a match held behind closed doors, a formula commonly used in English clubs' training sessions. The friendly ended 0-1 in favor of the team coached by Gary O’Neil.

One of the main focuses was Andoni Gorosabel, who was able to make his debut as an Espanyol player. The full-back needed minutes to build competitive match sharpness, just like Bryan Zaragoza, another of the players on whom attention was focused during this period without official fixtures.

Javi Puado's situation is different. The forward has already taken part in training sessions with his team-mates, but he continues to progress gradually in his recovery from his knee injury and did not get any minutes against the British side.

The friendly also allowed Manolo González to bring some of the work done during the break into a match setting. The coach wants to prepare his squad for the five fixtures they will face before the next international interruption, scheduled for November.

With this test already completed, the coaching staff will analyze what happened against Ipswich and continue preparing for the return to competition. Espanyol's next match will be against Málaga on October 9.
