Sorloth on the verge of returning: a bargain in sight?
Alexander Sorloth is getting closer and closer to moving past the calf muscle injury that has kept him sidelined for two months. The Norwegian striker is set to rejoin the group in the last week of the international break, coinciding with preparations for the match against Alavés.

The medical team is starting to clear out for Diego Simeone. After a start to the season shaped by a lack of available strikers, the coach expects to recover Alexander Sorloth in the coming days. He is now in the final stage of his recovery and could return to work alongside the rest of his teammates.
The forward has been training on his own for around two months after suffering a muscle injury in the calf. At first, the Atlético medical report spoke of a strain after his return to training following the World Cup, although the problem ended up being more far-reaching.
During this time, Sorloth has continued with individual work to overcome the physical issue and regain the level of form needed before returning to the collective training. He has even trained on days when the rest of the squad had off, with the aim of speeding up his match readiness.
Unless something unexpected crops up, the Norwegian will return with the group during the last week of the break, the same week that will lead into the trip to Alavés. The game is scheduled for Saturday at Mendizorroza at 16:15.
Simeone regains attacking options

DLThe attacking picture has changed considerably compared with the first weeks of the campaign. Simeone even used Lookman as a striker in the absence of alternatives, with Julián not yet at his best, Jonathan David still due to join up, and Sorloth sidelined with injury.
Now the situation is different. Julián is already back, while Jonathan David has started with three goals in his first three matches. Sorloth's next return to training will allow Atlético to have their striker options available again.
The Norwegian will therefore begin his 2026-27 season in October. In his previous campaigns, he also stood out especially from the turn of the year: 18 of his 26 goals for Villarreal came from January, while in his first season as a rojiblanco he scored 16 of his 24 after New Year's Day and, last season, he made 15 of his 20 goals during that same stretch of the calendar.
