Yeremay once again left a big mark in Getafe and his role is starting to open up debate about the part he should play at Deportivo. His showing against Aubameyang once again highlighted his ability to make a difference, although his physical condition and the competition for a place in the starting XI still shape his options.

The issue for Yeremay is not only about getting back to his best version. He also has to find a place in a setup in which several pieces seem to have gained ground. The Deportivo debuted at the Coliseum with a midfield made up of Casadó, Amatucci and Mario Soriano, three players who are expected to carry a lot of weight in building the game.

That combination is joined by Luismi Cruz, established as an option capable of threading passes and showing up between the lines. That distribution leaves little room for Yeremay in midfield, an area that would also force him to drift away from the box and take on defensive duties that could curb his attacking influence.

Two takes on where Yeremay fits

However, the trip to Getafe provided arguments for those who believe he already deserves to increase his involvement. Deportivo went through difficult moments at the Coliseum, especially due to a slow start and some defensive problems, but they found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang again close to the area.

The forward read the space between the center-backs perfectly and finished by poking the ball in, although much of the move began with Yeremay. His assist made it possible to see the game-breaking player the Deportivo faithful are hoping for, and it reinforced the sense that he can start demanding more presence.

Two journalists from la Voz de Galicia weigh in on the matter:

Antía S. Aguado puts the emphasis precisely on that appearance. Yeremay is still not at 100 percent; he lacks a spark and had trouble linking up several runs, but his impact on the goal represents a step forward in his return to feeling like himself.

Pedro Barreiros offers a more cautious reading. If his fit in midfield is proving difficult, the other option would be to use him as part of the attacking pair. That raises another question: leaving out a player who does the necessary work up front could affect the scenario in which Aubameyang is finding spaces to exploit his goal-scoring ability.
