The future of Julián Álvarez remains one of the main focuses of the transfer market. This Wednesday, Joan Laporta has once again referred publicly to the Argentine forward and confirmed that the FC Barcelona maintains its offer to Atlético de Madrid despite the refusal shown so far by the Rojiblancos.

The Blaugrana president explained that Barça has already formally conveyed its interest to Atlético and that it even held a personal conversation with Miguel Ángel Gil Marín to make clear the intention to sign the attacker. The first response from Madrid was that Julián Álvarez is not for sale, mainly because of the difficulty of finding a reliable replacement in this final stretch of the market.

Barcelona does not withdraw its proposal

In response to that message, Barcelona initially decided to pause its moves, although without definitively closing the deal. As Laporta explained, later the club received information suggesting that Atlético would be willing to listen to offers from other teams, which would have led the Blaugrana to decide to keep their offer active until the market closes.

The top Culé executive also said that at Barcelona there is a perception that Julián Álvarez would look favorably on playing at the Camp Nou. Laporta, however, insisted that any operation would have to be carried out through an agreement between the two clubs and stressed institutional respect for Atlético.

The Blaugrana stance also appears to have sporting backing. Hansi Flick had already made clear during his previous appearance ahead of the match against Athletic that both he and Deco share the position conveyed by the president regarding the Argentine forward.

Laporta's words, however, have not gone down well at Atlético de Madrid. As reported by Marca and picked up by ElDesmarque, from the Rojiblancos camp they believe that all the noise generated around the forward's future is directly harming the club both on the sporting and social fronts.

The response attributed to Atlético is especially forceful: the club believes there are '0% chances' of selling Julián Álvarez to Barcelona and understands that the conflict has stopped being only an economic issue.

At the Metropolitano they also believe that over the past few weeks a narrative has been built presenting the player as the main one harmed by the situation, something they reject outright. The Rojiblancos position currently is not to strengthen a direct rival, regardless of the figures Barcelona may put on the table.

With the close of the market getting closer, the positions of both clubs appear completely at odds. Barcelona publicly maintains its proposal and hopes that some change in the scenario could happen, while from Madrid they convey that the door to Barça is closed.
