The scare came almost at the end, when the friendly had already produced more jitters than usual for a pre-season fixture. Boyé, who had come on after the break in place of Mañas, could not finish the match and was replaced in stoppage time by Mariano.

The Argentine forward went straight to the dressing rooms and did not take part in the penalty shootout. After the team left for the bus, he was seen with a fair amount of normality, although the change was due to adductor discomfort.

Tests and options for Quique

Boyé will undergo medical tests to determine whether the discomfort is just a warning or if there is a more serious injury. Alavés kick off next Saturday at Mendizorroza against Getafe, at 19.30, and the forward has a week to try to make it.

The situation is also worrying given his recent history. Last season he already suffered several physical problems that reduced his continuity, including discomfort in the abductor, a tear in the hamstring biceps in the final stretch of the campaign, and plantar fasciitis that had already been overcome. Despite that, he still reached 11 league goals.

If the tests rule out an injury, his progress will be assessed day by day during the week sessions, with no friendlies left ahead. If he is not available, Quique will have to decide whether to bet on Mañas, whether to give Mariano more minutes, or whether to change the setup with another profile alongside Toni Martínez.

The schedule also leaves little room. Five days after the league opener, Alavés will visit Rayo Vallecano on Thursday 20 at 21.00.

Getafe will also face that first matchday with a forced absence, although one far more serious. Christantus Uche suffered a severe injury on Thursday in the friendly against Monaco after a tough challenge. The medical report confirmed that the Nigerian attacker «has a serious injury in the right knee» and will have to go under the knife. His club added that «the recovery period will be prolonged».
