Deportivo makes Angeliño signing official

The return of José Ángel Esmorís, ‘Angeliño’, carries special weight for Deportivo supporters. This Wednesday, the blue-and-white club made official a deal that brings home a player developed in its academy and, years after leaving for European football, will now have the chance to play for the first team at Riazor.

The formula chosen is a loan from Roma, with a purchase option that the Deportivo can exercise at the end of the 2026-2027 season. In its statement, the club highlighted the emotional side of the left-back's arrival: “After visiting some of the most important stages in European football, Angeliño returns home. To the city and the badge with which he took his first steps after ED Luis Calvo Sanz, and which he has always pointed to as the team of his feelings”.

Angeliño will come under the orders of Antonio Hidalgo with a clear goal: to earn a place on the left flank. In that position, he will face direct competition from the Italian Giacomo Quagliata, so his arrival gives the coach more options for that area of the pitch.

The new Deportivo player left the Deportivo academy in the summer of 2012 to join Manchester City’s youth ranks. Since then, his career has taken him through clubs such as Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven, RB Leipzig, Galatasaray and Roma.

The club also wanted to stress the personal meaning of this signing: “Beyond the numbers and the clubs where he has shone, there is one aspect that makes this deal something very special: the return of a Deportivo man who never hid his desire to one day wear the first-team shirt.
