The economic backdrop weighs as much as the sporting one. After completing the signings of Grimaldo, Hjulmand and Kang-in Lee, the rojiblanco club has used up the margin it had earmarked to strengthen the squad, so selling Ruggeri would allow them to bring in money and reactivate any potential moves before the transfer window closes.

Juventus and Roma had been keeping an eye on the full-back, but the team that has accelerated the most is Unai Emery's Aston Villa. The English club has already tabled a firm offer and believes it can convince the player in the coming days.

Talks are ongoing. Tullio Tinti and Manuel Montip, Ruggeri's agents, went to the Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda this Monday to meet with Mateu Alemany and then watched the team's training session.

In the day-to-day work, details have also emerged that point to a change of scenario. Ruggeri stopped being part of the group tested as a starter, and his place was taken by Arnau Sol, a full-back for Atletico Madrid. This Tuesday, the Italian also spent part of the session on a stationary bike while the theoretical starters completed the training.

Inside the Atletico, they believe the operation can fit into the club's planning. Grimaldo arrives to take charge of the left flank and David Hancko can also play in that position, meaning the club does not consider it essential to go into the market to cover a possible departure.

The financial side reinforces that stance. Atletico paid close to 17 million euros to Atalanta last summer and Ruggeri's performance under Simeone has raised his value, which would open the door to a sale with a profit.

The decision now rests with the player. While Aston Villa is pushing to close the deal as soon as possible, Atletico is waiting for a response that could definitively unlock its planning in this summer transfer window.
