The Dutchman arrived on the tour with his sights set on his future, but the response on the pitch has been emphatic. He scored both goals in the win over Derbi County (1-2) and also netted the equaliser against Stoke City (1-1). Three goals in two matches that have allowed him to gain ground in a position where Corberán has given him a start ahead of Hugo Duro, with Umar Sadiq carrying physical niggles.

The change in role has been key. With not much time spent out wide, Danjuma has found a more favourable environment as a centre-forward, with freedom of movement and less defensive wear and tear. He explained it himself after the match: “My best years were as a striker, where I feel comfortable. I can play as a winger but I also feel comfortable as a striker. We play with more space but you have to run more. I can play wherever they ask me”.

Danjuma's opportunity as a ‘9’

His performances in England have left a different feeling inside Valencia CF. Danjuma was in the exit ramp, but his goal impact has put him in a more solid position within the group. The market remains open and could change any scenario, although for now his situation points more to staying on than an immediate move.

The challenge remains the same as the one that has accompanied the Dutchman in recent years: sustaining that level over time. Quality and conditions he has, but his recent career has been shaped by expectations that never quite took hold at Villarreal, Tottenham, Everton, Girona or even at Valencia itself during last season.

Danjuma insists he is only thinking about the club. “For the moment I am a Valencia player. I am working here. Last year was tough for us because we have more to give. This season could be very good for everyone”, he said after the game against Stoke City.

With a contract until June 2028, the forward had already sent a message on social media at the end of May pointing to the 26/27 season from a Valencia perspective: “This season, without a doubt, has not lived up to what you deserve, and that leaves me with a promise: we will come back stronger, we will work even harder and we will give even more next season to take this beautiful club, together with its incredible fans, to the place it deserves”.
