The Andalusian derby between Real Betis Balompié and Sevilla FC was once again the main focus of Spanish football, a match that is always experienced with maximum intensity and goes far beyond the standings. Betis came intent on imposing their possession game and leveraging the creativity of their midfield to create danger, while Sevilla aimed to remain solid at the back and break quickly on transitions, looking to punish possible mistakes by their opponents.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the match went to Betis. A good run down the right by Cucho sought out Diego Llorente, and the Sevilla defender managed to deflect the ball with the tip of his foot, sending it against the side netting. However, in the next play Pellegrini’s side would not forgive. Abde made a great individual move from the left and passed the ball to Cucho; the Colombian’s shot was saved by Vlachodimos, but the rebound fell to Antony’s feet, who, with a spectacular bicycle kick, opened the scoring and put it 1-0.

Soon after, Sevilla tried to respond and get back into the game. After a good recovery in midfield, the ball reached Adams, who struck powerfully, although his shot was comfortably blocked by Valles.

Despite this, Betis maintained their intensity and managed to extend the lead. In a transition from the defense, the ball once again reached Abde, who, with great vision, found Fidalgo with a threaded through pass into space. The midfielder finished precisely with a subtle outside touch to score the second goal.

With this dominance, Betis was clearly superior throughout the first half.

SECOND HALF

The second half started at a very slow pace. Real Betis, when finding space, quickly broke in counterattacks and tried to control possession. Meanwhile, Sevilla FC began the second half with two changes from the start to boost width on the wings and decisively launch their attack.

In the 62nd minute, Almeyda’s side managed to reduce the deficit. After several minutes of ball dominance, Oso, who had come on at the start of the second half, delivered a measured cross into the area and the smartest of the class, Alexis Sánchez, anticipated everyone to head the ball into the net and make it 2-1.

From that goal on, control shifted to the visitors. Sevilla shifted play to the wings and created several dangerous chances, though without finding the net. Shortly after, on another left flank foray, the ball reached Isaac Romero, who left the sphere with a backheel for Akor Adams. The Nigerian striker volleyed first-time, but Valles’ spectacular intervention prevented the equalizer.

The derby heated up even more when Sevilla managed to equalize. After a defensive mistake by Betis, Isaac Romero capitalized on a poor clearance and with a powerful left-footed shot leveled the Andalusian derby. The Betis reaction was immediate: on the next play, Abde came close to scoring, but his shot hit the post.

In the end, neither team took the derby home and both teams shared the points.
