Dubasin strengthens Osasuna's attack: a new bargain or a risky Comunio bet?

Jonathan Dubasin's career path

Jonathan Dubasin, aged 26, developed in Catalan football before embarking on a steady rise that saw him pass through clubs such as UD Logroñés, Albacete, Basel, Real Oviedo and Sporting de Gijón.

His good form at Albacete sparked interest from Basel, who paid around three million euros for his signing in 2023. After an uneven spell in Switzerland and a subsequent loan to Oviedo, he found his best version at El Molinón.

In his two seasons with Sporting, he played 77 official matches, scoring 25 goals and providing 13 assists. A return that convinced Osasuna to complete his move for around four million euros.

The forward has signed a contract for the next four seasons and arrives at El Sadar with the intention of becoming an important piece in the new rojillo project.

Dubasin's stats from last season

Dubasin was one of the most prominent players in Segunda División during the 2025/26 season. He played 37 league matches, 35 of them as a starter, and racked up close to 3,000 minutes on the pitch.

He finished the campaign with 16 goals and four assists, as well as an average rating of approximately 7.05 points on Sofascore. In Comunio Segunda, he reached 241 points, just three fewer than in the previous campaign.

His numbers point to a player who is particularly productive in the final third. Dubasin does not need to be heavily involved in build-up to create danger, as he stands out for his ability to attack the space, arrive inside the box and finish moves.

His 16 goals were fairly close to his expected goals figures, so you cannot simply call it a season defined by luck. However, it is worth noting that six of his goals came from the penalty spot.

How does Jonathan Dubasin play?

Dubasin is a right-footed forward who can operate as right winger, left winger, second striker or supporting the main striker. Although he starts many moves from the flank, he is not a classic winger who stays glued to the touchline.

His main strength is the ability to attack the spaces between the full-back and the centre-back. He has pace, a powerful stride and a good read of his runs. He constantly looks to get into central areas to get closer to the box and find shooting situations.

He can also perform as a second striker, a role in which he makes better use of his mobility, his aggression in pressing and his ability to arrive from second line.

He does not particularly stand out as a creator or provider. His average for key passes, completed crosses and chances created is not especially high. His output depends mainly on goals, shots and the actions he carries out inside the opposing team's box.

Without the ball, he is an active player. He helps in the press, contests plenty of duels and has no trouble putting in defensive efforts. That intensity can help his Sofascore scores even when he does not score.

Dubasin's situation at Osasuna

Osasuna have brought in Dubasin to increase the dynamic and the depth of an attacking unit that needed new options. His versatility will allow him to be used in different positions, although he could mainly start as a winger or second striker.

The new rojillo coach, Luis Miguel Ramis, has typically used systems with two forwards, so it would not be strange to see Dubasin alongside Ante Budimir in certain phases of the season.

He could also play from one of the wide areas, where he will face competition from players such as Raúl Moro, Rubén García or Kike Barja.

The investment Osasuna have made and the length of his contract suggest he is arriving to have an important role. Even so, his status as a starter will still need to be confirmed during pre-season.

What can Dubasin bring to Comunio?

Dubasin was one of the most recommended forwards in Comunio in Segunda División. His ability to score, assist and take part in actions inside the box helped him surpass 240 points across the last two campaigns.

The main question will be how he adapts to La Liga. At the top level, defenders are quicker, there will be less space and he will probably have fewer clear chances.

Also, his points without a goal could be somewhat limited because he is not a player who racks up too many key passes, dribbles, crosses or assists. His fantasy ceiling will be closely tied to his goal output.

On the plus side, his intensity, his ability to win duels and his defensive involvement could help him earn acceptable Sofascore ratings even if he does not score.

Watch out for penalties

Dubasin scored six penalty goals during the last season. That figure boosted his attacking numbers at Sporting, but it does not mean he will keep that role at Osasuna.

As long as Ante Budimir remains on the pitch, the Croatian forward will be the likely main penalty taker. Dubasin could become an alternative when Budimir is unavailable, although the final pecking order will have to wait for the first official matches.

Fantasy ceiling and floor

To cement himself as a starter, reach between 10 and 12 goal involvements and surpass 170 points in Comunio. If he maintains his ability to attack the box, he could become one of Osasuna's breakout players.

If the step up in division significantly reduces his attacking output, he loses prominence to the competition and ends up alternating starts with appearances off the bench.

With an initial price of two million euros, Dubasin is a fairly interesting bet. His numbers in Segunda, his status as a signing and his chances of starting could trigger a quick rise in value.

He could be worth buying as long as his price stays below four or five million euros. After that, the risk will increase because he still has to prove his adaptation to La Liga and his real role within the team.

Final assessment

Jonathan Dubasin has what it takes to become an important player at El Sadar: mobility, pace, arrival in the box, versatility and a goalscoring ability.

His signing is especially attractive due to his initial price and the room for growth he can offer during pre-season. However, you should not automatically expect the same numbers he put up in Segunda División, particularly because he could lose some of his prominence from the penalty spot.
