Rayo in talks to sign Marash Kumbulla to strengthen their defense
Marash Kumbulla has entered fully into Rayo Vallecano's list of targets. The Madrid club has already made a move for the Albanian centre-back, although the deal still needs an agreement with Roma.
Rayo Vallecano
The priority is to shore up the back line before the start of the competition. As reported by Matteo Moretto, the Rayo Vallecano has submitted a contract proposal to the player, who does not seem to have a place in the new project at the Italian club.
“Rayo are pushing for Marash Kumbulla”, the journalist said, placing the negotiations in an open phase. The next step will be to find a formula with Roma to complete the defender's exit, either through a loan or via a transfer.
Kumbulla, 26 years old, already knows Spanish football. After arriving at Roma from Hellas Verona, he went on to play for Espanyol and later Mallorca, both on loan. That LaLiga experience is one of the factors that make the centre-back an attractive option for Rayo Vallecano.
A position marked as a priority
Defence is one of the lines that Beñat San José wants to strengthen this summer. In Vallecas, they are looking for a profile with physicality, solidity, and experience in LaLiga, traits that fit the Albanian international centre-back.
The Rayo move also responds to the need to get ahead of other clubs that are interested. The red-and-white club has already passed its offer to the player and hopes that proposal can convince him to return to Spanish football.
Meanwhile, another name that is coming up strongly is Unai Núñez. Both Kumbulla and the Basque centre-back are listed as possible replacements for Abdul Mumin.
