Roger Hinojo won't move: Espanyol say no to an exit

Roger Hinojo will not be leaving the Espanyol this summer. The Catalan club has decided to shut the door on all proposals received for the left-back, convinced that he will be an important piece in the 2026-27 squad.

The academy product, aged 21, has attracted interest from several teams after his strong performances during last campaign with Cultural Leonesa and the impressions he has been making in pre-season. None of the offers has changed the mind of the sporting directorate.

Lech Poznan was the club that pushed hardest for his signing and the current Polish champions tabled a three million euro offer to land the defender, but the Espanyol rejected the proposal immediately.

The Elche and newly promoted Racing de Santander asked about Hinojo with a loan formula that included a purchase option. The Strasbourg also joined them, one of the standout teams in the latest Conference League, who also kept a close eye on the player's situation.

Hinojo's future looked less certain after the arrival of Quilindschy Hartman to strengthen the left-back position. However, the coach and the sporting directorate believe that both can compete for the spot and think the academy player is ready to have a role in the first team.

Club confidence

Monchi has conveyed his confidence to the player from the start, a message that has been backed up by actions during pre-season. The full-back is responding on the pitch and was one of the standout players in the draw against Sabadell, where he provided the assist for Kike García's goal.

Renewed until 2030, Hinojo now faces the chance to establish himself at the Espanyol. The interest generated during the transfer window confirms his growth, but the club have no intention of parting with a player they consider a bet for the present and the future.
