PTThe Sevilla already has an important piece in place for their goalkeeping department ahead of the 2026-27 season. Odysseas Vlachodimos will once again wear the blanquiroja shirt after the club reached an agreement with the Newcastle United to extend his loan for one more year.
The Greek goalkeeper, aged 32, earned the coaching staff's trust during the previous campaign. After arriving in Nervión looking for continuity, he ended up taking ownership of the goal. He played 33 LaLiga matches and another in the Copa del Rey, becoming one of the team's most-used players and delivering decisive performances that helped them achieve the season's targets.
His career began in the youth ranks of the VfB Stuttgart, although he made the decisive step into professional football with the Panathinaikos. There he caught the eye of the Benfica, where he enjoyed the most stable period of his career. With the Portuguese club, he played 225 official matches, including 32 in the Champions League and 12 in the Europa League, as well as winning two league titles and two Portuguese Super Cups.
After his successful spell in Lisbon, in 2023 he signed for Nottingham Forest to try his luck in the Premier League. However, he barely found playing time and only appeared in seven matches. A year later, he was transferred to the Newcastle, but he still couldn't establish himself and only played 45 official minutes in the League Cup, a competition that the English side would go on to win.
The chance to revive his career came with his loan to the Sevilla , and he made his league debut in the opening rounds of the campaign. From then on, he remained a starter for virtually the entire season, establishing himself as one of the team's most reliable players.
At international level, Vlachodimos has 53 caps for the Greece national team since making his debut in 2018. Before representing the Greek side, he had gone through all of Germany's youth categories, the country where he was born, and he even featured in the team that won the 2017 Under-21 European Championship.
