Iñaki Peña negotiates his exit from Barça to Panathinaikos
Iñaki Peña is edging towards a new chapter away from Spanish football. The Alicante goalkeeper, who played on loan at Elche last season, is closing in on his move to Greek side Panathinaikos.
The goalkeeper, aged 27, had not planned to start pre-season with FC Barcelona next July 13. Mundo Deportivo had already reported, in a piece by Roger Torelló, that Peña had decided to seek a way out after his loan spell and was considering continuing his career in a foreign league.
Panathinaikos moves forward for Peña
According to Jijantes FC, the deal between Barça and Panathinaikos is progressing as a transfer that would not reach 3 million euros. The move would allow the goalkeeper to begin a new professional stage after checking that he does not fit into Hansi Flick's plans.
Peña is under contract with the Blaugrana club until June 2029, but he wanted to have his future resolved as soon as possible. His sporting situation at Barcelona, together with the experience from last season at Elche, has led him to choose the Greek league as his next destination.
