The departure of Vlachodimos and the end of Nyland's contract leave Sevilla without goalkeepers for the 2026-27 season and force them to turn to the market.

Sevilla's sporting planning remains caught between institutional uncertainty and financial constraints, but there is a problem that no longer allows for too many twists: the goalkeeping position is empty ahead of next season.

As of today, the Nervion club does not have any confirmed goalkeeper for the 2026-27 season. The loan of Odysseas Vlachodimos has come to an end and the Greek international will return to the Newcastle, while Orjan Nyland concludes his contract and points to an exit that will definitively close a chapter marked by competition between the posts.

The situation contrasts with that of just a year ago. Back then, the Sevilla identified the need to strengthen a key position and opted for Vlachodimos. The decision paid off. The goalkeeper quickly became one of the few certainties in a team that went through numerous problems during the season.

His performances kept the Sevilla side going in many delicate moments. Decisive saves, consistency and composure allowed him to earn the trust of the coaching staff and relegate Nyland to a secondary role. His output was so solid that the club would look favorably on extending his stay in Nervion.

The plan to keep the Greek keeper appears beyond the reach of a Sevilla that continues to be tied up with settling accounts before taking on moves of a certain scale. The desire is there, but the options are limited.

Nyland's departure is also not a minor matter. Even though he lost prominence over the last campaign, the Norwegian now faces an important opportunity in his career. The proximity of the World Cup offers a top-level showcase to try to secure a new competitive destination and stay on the international radar.

Sporting management knows it will have to get it right again in a position that tends to make a difference over the course of a season. The challenge is not straightforward: finding immediate performance with limited resources.

With the market barely starting and many issues still to be resolved in the offices, the Sevilla head into the summer with an obvious sense of urgency. Before thinking about ambitious targets, they need to build from the back. And right now, that build starts practically from scratch and on top of that with no money.
