The match arrived charged with tension for RCD Mallorca, still forced to pick up points in the battle for survival. Martín Demichelis' team needed to be strong at home against a more relaxed Villarreal CF, already settled in the upper zone and with the European objective practically secured. That difference in urgency was especially noticeable after the break, when the Bermellón side pushed with more conviction in search of a victory they never quite found.

First half

Mallorca wanted to take command from the start, accumulating long possessions and looking for Zito Luvumbo to break down the wings. The Angolan attacker was one of the most electric players in the first half, appearing between the lines, attacking spaces, and creating several dangerous situations. Samu Costa also tried, arriving from the second line, although without the necessary precision to beat Arnau Tenas.

Villarreal, less dominant with the ball, found their chance in an isolated action inside the area. A shot by Sergi Cardona ended up hitting Mateu Morey's arm and, after reviewing the monitor, Víctor García Verdura pointed to the penalty spot. The blow left Mallorca shaken for a few minutes, but the Balearic team did not disconnect. Before the break, they found reward in a play that completely changed the mood of Son Moix. Arnau Tenas failed to catch an apparently controllable aerial ball and Muriqi, always alert inside the box, took advantage of the gift to push in the equalizer. Second half

After the break, Mallorca raised the pace and turned the second half into an exercise in persistence. Pablo Torre tried from the edge of the box, Mojica continued to provide width until he had to leave with physical problems, and Muriqi became the locals' main offensive focus. The Kosovar striker had several clear chances to complete the comeback but found the best version of Arnau Tenas.

The Villarreal goalkeeper recovered from his error with decisive interventions. First, he responded to a low shot from Pablo Torre, then pulled off a spectacular save against Muriqi, and, already in added time, appeared again to prevent a goal from Jan Virgili on a dangerous free-kick. The Submarine, with changes by Nicolas Pépé, Alberto Moleiro, Georges Mikautadze, Gerard Moreno, and Dani Parejo, sought to refresh themselves but ended up suffering near their goal.

Mallorca finished committed and amassed more shots, but lacked clarity in the final touch.
