The clash pitted two teams with European aspirations and different dynamics. The team from Donostia reacted with intensity and started piling up chances at Valles’ goal. After several warnings and a disallowed goal for offside, Óskarsson appeared to reduce the margin and bring hope back to Anoeta.

In the final minutes, the home pressure was total. Betis tried to hold on, although they ended up suffering dangerously close to their area. In added time, a hand by Aitor Ruibal inside the box ended up being called as a penalty and Mikel Oyarzabal did not miss from the spot to seal the 2-2 draw.

The closing moments still brought more tension with Ruibal being sent off after receiving a second yellow card. The draw left mixed feelings: reaction and pride in Real, lost opportunity for a Betis side that was very close to victory.
