Álvaro Núñez talks about his injury and explains his signing with Celta

Last day negotiations

“The month of January was a bit crazy, it was also my first experience of leaving my club in winter. The truth is that I had a tough time, it was overwhelming and everything closed with ten minutes to go. I was so tense that when it became official, everything dropped and I got sick”.

Initial contacts

“I learn that there is a possibility of leaving in January, I don't know exactly what day, I assess it and think it's the best for me and my future. I also convey this to the club before and I do everything in my power to be here. Luckily, it worked out”.

Foregoing money

“These are efforts that I consider private. The club knows the money I had to give up, and the club I come from knows it too. I don't want to go into too many details either”.

Long contract

“It's one of the reasons why I also decided to come here, besides the playing system, which suits me. In terms of sports, the club bet on me, and that's one of the reasons why I didn't take long to decide”.

Preferred position

“If you had asked me this question some time ago, I would have said I am a right-back. But I come from a situation where I have played, enjoyed, and contributed in several positions. The style is quite similar to what I have been doing, I can contribute on both sides, as a third center-back, I have even played in midfield. It will depend a bit on what the coach is looking for and on the opponent”.

Giráldez

“As I come from a somewhat special situation, where I had to be out for three weeks due to the pain I have, I am gradually integrating into the group, and it is being quite in line with the three weeks I have been out. I have spoken with the coach, but they are introducing me step by step. I found a fantastic group, there is a very close relationship between everyone, and the adaptation is being made very pleasant for me”.

It is a condition that I have been dealing with for quite some time, I would say years, and yes, it is true that it has limited me, but not stopped me. I stopped in January because it just so happened that I sprained my ankle, which aggravated the injury more, so I had to stop. Now I don't have the sprain anymore, the adaptation is being progressive, the club has looked at me, assessed me, and they are clear on the work that needs to be done to try to completely clear it up and make the adaptation good”.
