Nottingham Forest has not forgotten about David Soria. After trying in the summer, they are back in the winter market, or will wait until the end of the season when the goalkeeper becomes a free agent. At Getafe, crucial for Bordalás, the dilemma grows: sell in January to make money and free up salary cap space, or wait until June.

The Madrid-born goalkeeper, 32 years old, sustains the team match after match. No one at the club or in the stands wants him to leave, but the context conditions any decision.

Forest is determined to sign him now. In August, after failing to secure Soria, they turned to Brazilian John Víctor (29 years old), from Botafogo with a previous spell at Valladolid. In the summer of 2024, the club had brought in the Belgian Matz Sels (33), who was a starter at the beginning of the season. In November, Sels lost his place to John Víctor, who had five matches below expectations; the situation forced Sean Dyche to reinstate the Belgian as a starter.

Nottingham Forest's plan

The English club considers Soria's arrival a priority to stabilize a goal that has experienced ups and downs this season. The goalkeeper situation has been unstable: Sels started, John Víctor took over in November, and Dyche himself had to switch back to Sels after five matches. The board sees Soria as an immediate reinforcement to solidify the position.

Getafe's dilemma

At Getafe, they understand that, if the goalkeeper becomes a free agent in June, there will be no income from a transfer. Selling now would allow them to earn a sum of money and, above all, free up salary cap space required by LaLiga to register Chimy Ávila and Dani Rodríguez. Bordalás and the fans, however, hope to retain one of the team leaders. The azulones will have to choose between immediate sporting stability or the economic and administrative opportunity offered in January.
