There will be league action in LaLiga and Segunda this weekend
LaLiga and the RFEF have decided to keep Primera and Segunda Division fixtures on this weekend despite the AFE's request following the death of Jesus de Miguel. The only postponed matches are Granada-Tenerife and Andorra-Mallorca, both from Segunda Division matchday 13.
The league programme will go ahead this weekend in Primera and Segunda Division. LaLiga and the RFEF have rejected the AFE's request to suspend all national competitions after the death of Jesus de Miguel, Tenerife's player.
The decision means all scheduled matches will be played, with one exception: the two fixtures involving the clubs directly affected by the incident that took place last Monday at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez. The information was reported by Isaac Fouto on 'El Partidazo de COPE'.
The matches that have been postponed
The two postponed fixtures belong to Segunda Division matchday 13: Granada-Tenerife and Andorra-Mallorca. For the time being, no new date has been announced for either match.
LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation are therefore sticking to their plan to stage the rest of the round, against the formal request made by the Spanish Footballers' Association. The union had asked for all national competitions to be suspended and was still awaiting a response yesterday.
AFE called for football to stop
AFE put its request to LaLiga and the RFEF after the Tenerife player's death. In its statement, the union said the loss of Jesus de Miguel is "an irreparable blow for the entire football family" and argued that "there are moments when football must stop".
Tribute in the stadiums
Although the matches will not be suspended across the board, LaLiga and the Federation have said they intend to organise a major tribute to Jesus de Miguel in all stadiums this weekend. Details of the tributes will be made public officially in the coming days.
The Andorra squad had already held a minute's silence in memory of the footballer. Hundreds of people also gathered at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez to say goodbye to him.
The cup was suspended
The league competition is continuing after the RFEF suspended on Tuesday the first-round Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina ties scheduled for this week.
The Tenerife-Andorra match in which the incident occurred has also been recorded as a 2-2 draw. The sanction for goalkeeper Guono will be known on Friday, once the clubs' period for submissions has ended.
