Flick confirms multiple absences and considers De Jong as a centre-back

Numerous defensive absences and De Jong as an alternative

Hansi Flick acknowledged that the absences of Koundé, Eric García, Christensen and Xavi Espart, as well as Dani Olmo, are limiting his options.

The coach confirmed that Frenkie de Jong could play as a centre-back to cover the defensive needs.

«Frenkie can play in different positions. He can be a centre-back», he explained.

At the moment, Gerard and Cubarsí are the main options available for the heart of the defence.

Flick points to Balde's lack of confidence

The coach also spoke about Alejandro Balde, admitting that he is still not going through his best moment.

«Balde is not with the confidence he needs to play, the conviction to attack and to press high», he said.

Flick believes the full-back needs to regain that security in order to return to his best level.

Brian Fariñas and Tunkara could get opportunities

The absences could open the door for the club's young players from the academy.

Brian Fariñas is emerging as an option at full-back, after convincing the coach during training sessions.

«The time has come for him to deserve to play», he said.

Regarding Ebrima Tunkara, Flick highlighted his progress after the injury and did not rule out that he could get minutes.

Raphinha and Lamine Yamal

Flick acknowledged his concern about the call-up of Raphinha with Brazil, especially because of the trip to Singapore and the accumulation of matches.

«If we can manage his minutes a bit, I will be happy», he explained, although he did not announce any specific limitations for the game against Alavés.

He also highlighted Lamine Yamal's good response after the Clásico, saying he has been focused and with a positive mindset during training.

The coach avoided confirming the starting XI, but made it clear that Barcelona needs to get back to winning after two consecutive defeats.
