El Málaga CF has confirmed an unexpected setback just hours before its clash with Deportivo Alavés. Pablo Martínez has not made the squad to travel to Vitoria due to discomfort caused by plantar fasciitis, a physical issue that will prevent him from taking part in this Friday, October 23, from 21:00, at Mendizorroza.

The absence of the midfielder represents a new problem for Juanfran Funes, who had the player as one of his options to occupy the left flank. The club has said the discomfort is still being monitored, so there is still no confirmed return timeline for him to get back on the pitch.

The drop-out of Pablo Martínez is added to that of Joaquín Muñoz, who also will not be able to play due to a muscular injury in the soleus of his right leg. Two major absences that significantly reduce the attacking options for the Malaga side.

Given this situation, Adam Aznou could take on more prominence in the coach's plans, while Haitam is also among the available alternatives, although he is still working his way back to his best physical condition after a long spell on the sidelines.

The squad brings, at least, one positive piece of news: Juan Berrocal returns to the list, which also includes the academy players Andrés Céspedes and Juani.

A major setback for Fantasy teams

Pablo Martínez's absence directly affects users of Comunio, Biwenger, Futmondo and LaLiga Fantasy, especially those who had planned to start him in this tenth matchday.

The midfielder is completely ruled out for the game against Alavés, so he is recommended to be replaced before the deadline for team selections, as long as each platform's rules allow it.

This evening, Málaga will look for its first win of the season after nine matchdays without a victory, although it will have to do so without one of the players who had been gaining prominence in recent fixtures.
