Javier Aguirre continues searching for the formula that will allow the Valencia to take a step forward in its performance. The Mexican coach has used the latest training sessions at Paterna to test alternatives ahead of the match against Villarreal, with changes both in the distribution of the midfield and in the attacking area.

The main new development is in the system. After opting for a 4-2-3-1 in the last league match, the coach has trialed a 4-1-4-1, a setup that would change the roles of several players and could lead to movement in the starting XI. For now, these are training tests and there is no definitive lineup.

One of the main unknowns lies in how the midfield is arranged. Aguirre is considering changing the usual structure of the team, a decision that could directly affect Pepelu and Guido Rodríguez.

The coach is looking at the possibility of breaking up the partnership formed by both players, with the goal of reorganizing the positions and finding a greater balance between defence and attack. In this scenario, Pepelu could drop back in his position to act as a centre-back, while Guido would take on a more prominent role as a defensive pivot.

The alternative would allow freeing up a spot in the centre of the pitch and open the door to other options to complete the lineup.

Pepelu's starting spot is also at risk if the central pairing of Tárrega and De Haas is ultimately kept.

The tests carried out at Paterna also place Elliot as a possible alternative to strengthen the midfield. The player has worked in an inside position, a role that could allow him to get into the team if Aguirre keeps the system with a single defensive midfielder.

On the wings, Dani Raba and Luis Rioja remain options to provide driving runs and depth, although the final distribution of the pieces is still pending the coach's last decisions.

The front line also presents another of the key doubts. Aguirre has trialed Danjuma as an offensive reference, a variation that could leave Hugo Duro in a different situation compared to previous matchdays.

The Dutchman offers an alternative to change how the attack works, but the final choice will depend on the team's needs and the sensations shown during training.

For now, there is nothing confirmed. The next sessions will help clarify Aguirre's intentions, as he is considering several combinations before deciding which players will start against Villarreal.
