MDFacundo Bernal has been handed a four-match suspension for his straight red card in the league match between Betis and Barcelona. The Uruguayan midfielder was shown the red in the 54th minute after a clash with Lamine Yamal.
According to the report by De Burgos Bengoetxea, the Betis player was sent off for a confrontation in which he grabbed an opponent by the neck and then delivered two consecutive headbutts to the face, with the ball not in play. The report also states that the Barcelona player did not require medical assistance and was able to continue playing.
Betis submitted allegations, believing there was a clear error in the referee's report. The club argued that the prior confrontation and the intervention by the opposing player, who was booked, were not properly reflected, and maintained that the aggression described could not be seen.
The Disciplinary Committee, however, has dismissed the Verdiblanco allegations. According to the ruling, the video documentation provided by Betis themselves makes it possible to see that Bernal carries out the action described in the referee's report.
The Betis club has announced that it will appeal the ban to the Court of Appeal. Pending what the next disciplinary body decides, Manuel Pellegrini would be without the midfielder for the matches against RC Celta, Málaga CF, Elche CF and the derby against Sevilla FC.
In Fantasy terms, Bernal is listed as a high-risk signing in the short term. His suspension is already in place, although Betis's appeal keeps open the possibility that the punishment could be reviewed.
