Villarreal visit Liverpool this Tuesday for the third matchday of the Champions League. Led by Íñigo Pérez, they arrive boosted by their win over Napoli, but they will face an English side that has won both of its opening European games.

Villarreal CF

The Villarreal of Íñigo Pérez faces one of the toughest challenges of the season. After coming back to beat Napoli (3-1) and securing their first Champions League victory, the Yellow Submarine will look for a positive result at Anfield that allows them to keep climbing the table.

The Castellón side arrives after drawing 0-0 with Elche in La Liga, a result that once again highlighted their issues with consistency. Gerard Moreno, Mikautadze and Moleiro will be some of their main attacking threats, while the physical condition of Nicolas Pépé and Tajon Buchanan will shape Íñigo Pérez's options.

An unstoppable Liverpool in the Champions League

The team coached by Andoni Iraola has started the European competition with a perfect record, after beating Atletico Madrid (2-1) and LASK (6-3).

The English side boasts players of enormous quality such as Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak, although they also head into the match with major absences. Szoboszlai and Frimpong will not be available due to injury, two setbacks that will force changes to the starting XI.

For Villarreal, it will be crucial to maintain defensive focus and take advantage of the spaces a very attacking Liverpool may leave behind. In addition, the Yellow Submarine will try to secure a historic victory at a stadium where they have never managed to win.

Possible lineups

Liverpool: Alisson; Araújo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Víctor Muñoz, Wirtz, Barcola and Isak.

Villarreal: Gulácsi; Mouriño, Pau Navarro, Renato Veiga, Carlos Romero; Comesaña, Pape Gueye; Oluwaseyi, Nathan Saliba, Moleiro and Mikautadze.
