Valencia XI leak: Danjuma and Diakhaby updates

The situation of César Tárrega is one of the main issues drawing attention in Valencia’s preparations. The center-back has been able to train during the week, but he is still dealing with discomfort and it is not yet clear that he will be in optimal condition for the match. This has led Javier Aguirre to trial a back line in which Mouctar Diakhaby would partner Justin de Haas.

As À Punt has reported, the Mexican coach would also have included Danjuma among the starters in the tests carried out before the game. The Dutchman is back in the coach’s plans after getting past his physical problems, with options to occupy one of the wings in Valencia’s attack.

The lineup Aguirre would have tried features Stole Dimitrievski in goal, protected by a defensive line made up of Pablo Maffeo, Mouctar Diakhaby, Justin de Haas and José Gayà.

In midfield, Pepelu and Guido Rodríguez would operate as a pair of holding midfielders, tasked with keeping the team stable and helping to build play from the back. Ahead of them would be Javi Guerra, with freedom to link up with the attacking players and move in behind the opposing midfielders.

The wide areas would be handled by Dani Raba and Arnaut Danjuma, while Hugo Duro would be the striker. Raba would keep his place after scoring in Santander, an outing that strengthens his chances of repeating in the starting XI.

The inclusion of Danjuma would add pace and the ability to beat a defender on one of the flanks, two qualities Aguirre could take advantage of against the Athletic.

Although Diakhaby seems to have gained ground in the training sessions, Tárrega’s starting spot is still not ruled out. The coaching staff will need to check how the defender responds in the final sessions before deciding who will partner De Haas.

Another option Aguirre is considering is Otorbi, who would initially be reserved for the bench. The young forward could get minutes in the second half to bring pace and fresh legs, depending on how the match unfolds.

For now, the XI leaked by À Punt is not a confirmed lineup. Tárrega’s physical feel and Javier Aguirre’s latest adjustments will determine the final choice for the visit of the Bilbao side to Mestalla.
