DLThe blue-and-white attacker returned to the media this Thursday at the Dépor Training Center, where he received the Estrella Galicia award for the best player of Deportivo in September. During his appearance, he looked cheerful and optimistic, although he made it clear that he does not want to rush his recovery.
The forward explained that his first sensations have been positive and that he has managed to make progress in his rehabilitation. «I am already without crutches, but I do not know how long I have left to recover», he admitted. He also confirmed that he has started pedaling and that his main goal is to regain mobility without feeling any discomfort.
As for the time he will be out, the doctors gave him an initial estimate of between six and eight weeks, but Aubameyang prefers to see how his knee responds when he can start running again on the grass.
He even joked about his bike sessions, saying he is doing the Tour de France.
The forward explains how he suffered the meniscus tear
The injury occurred during the match against Betis, in a set-piece situation. Aubameyang jumped with his right leg raised and felt pain as he landed. Although he initially tried to continue, he soon realized something was not right.
The inability to sprint made him suspect the problem could be serious. The discomfort increased after the match and, when he got up the next day, he decided he needed a medical check-up.
The forward admitted that he had never suffered a knee injury before, and that being told he needed an arthroscopy was especially difficult on a psychological level.
The first few days were not easy either, although support from his family helped him deal with the situation. His brothers traveled from Italy to accompany him during his recovery.
After the operation carried out by the orthopaedic surgeon Manuel Leyes, the player summed up his situation with a line: «Now I have a new knee and I have to start again».
His big start to the season and the message to the fans
Before getting injured, Aubameyang had signed five goals and two assists, figures that have quickly earned him the affection of Deportivo supporters.
The forward thanked him for the recognition he received and said that the September award has special meaning because of the backing from the fans since he arrived in A Coruña.
He also wanted to share the credit for his good start to the campaign with his teammates. Deportivo, newly promoted, sits in seventh place and the attacker believes that trust and collective work are key.
The appearance ended on a humorous note when he was asked about his usual acrobatic celebrations. Aubameyang said that he will keep doing somersaults when he recovers and has a stable meniscus.
