The session this Wednesday left an encouraging picture for Diego Pablo Simeone. Grimaldo, who had returned to Madrid after suffering a muscle overload during his camp with the Spanish national team, continues to increase his workload progressively and is already training alongside his teammates.

The full-back has now built up six days following an individual plan, between the gym and exercises with a different level of demand than the rest of the squad. His progress opens up the possibility that he could be available on Saturday, October 10 against Alavés, as long as the discomfort does not return.

The decision will now be in Simeone's hands. The coach will have to assess whether he uses Grimaldo immediately after the break or manages his minutes given the demanding schedule Atlético de Madrid will face over the coming weeks.

Five matches in just two weeks

The Rojiblancos have five games in 14 days against Alavés, Manchester United, Espanyol, Stuttgart and Deportivo de la Coruña ahead of them. To that run of fixtures will be added the league clash against Levante on October 31, an accumulation of commitments that could lead the Argentine coach to introduce rotations from this weekend.

The treatment room also brings other updates. Alexander Sorloth is already working on the pitch as he continues his return to fitness, although his recovery is being managed without rushing, given the level of performance Jonathan David is currently offering.

Two other players are also progressing. Hjulmand is already doing stretches as part of his specific work, while Mendoza remains sidelined and is developing his recovery in the gym after his involvement with the Spain under-21 national team.
