Athletic will have to face its next commitments without Nico Williams, who is injured during his time with the Spanish national team. The winger is expected to be out for between two and three weeks, and the aim is for him to be available to face Levante.

The roadmap for Nico Williams' recovery is starting to look clearer. The Spain international will not be able to play this Saturday against Rayo Vallecano, nor will he make the trip to Valencia, scheduled for Saturday 17 at 21:00.

At Athletic, the next reference point is the postponed match against Levante, which will be played on Wednesday 21 at 20:00 after being put back due to the rain. The intention is for the winger to be able to return then, always within the estimated window of two or three weeks.

His absence coincides with a demanding stretch of fixtures for the rojiblancos, who will have to complete three away trips in eleven days while trying to stay in the race for European places.

The physical problem occurred during the Nations League match between Spain and Croatia played in Seville. Nico Williams felt discomfort in the same moment in which he scored the goal that sealed the 4-1.

The issues became more evident after the game. The player was placed under the supervision of the Federation's medical services during his day off, but the recovery did not go well and he did not take part in Wednesday's training session.

Subsequent tests detected a moderate muscle injury in the left thigh's rectus anterior, which is why he left Spain's camp. The Federation kept the Athletic informed about his situation and, once back in Bilbao, the club takes over the monitoring of his recovery.

The rojiblanco medical report confirmed both the affected area and the moderate nature of the injury, although it initially did not set a period of absence. The forecast being used now puts his return between two and three weeks.

The rectus anterior is part of the quadriceps and is involved in both knee extension and hip flexion. It is an area subject to high demands in the usual actions of Nico Williams, especially accelerations, changes of pace, and high-intensity ball strikes.

As his recovery progresses, Athletic will have to play at least the matches against Rayo Vallecano and Valencia without the winger. The clash against Levante is the one marked as the reference point for his possible return.
