Atletico Madrid faces the international break with very different developments in their medical department. Pablo Barrios continues to take steps towards his return, while the absence of Alexander Sorloth goes on and Alejandro Grimaldo remains pending to learn the extent of his discomfort.

With a large part of the internationals away from Majadahonda, the rojiblanco side completed this Wednesday their second session of the week. The focus was especially on Barrios, who again carried out part of the training with his teammates after having started to integrate into the group dynamic on Tuesday.

The midfielder suffered a muscle injury against Liverpool on September 9, and since then he has missed the matches against Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Real Madrid. His gradual return to the group is good news for the Atletico, which still has ten days before visiting Mendizorroza to face Alaves.

Barrios is expected to regain weight in the middle of the rojiblanco midfield once he has definitively put his physical problems behind him. The two consecutive sessions working partially with the rest of the squad strengthen his chances of being available for the next league match.

The situation is very different with Alexander Sorloth. The Norwegian forward continues to stay out of collective training after the club said last August 12 that he was suffering from an "muscle strain". His absence is already approaching two months.

According to Diario As, Sorloth could start working with the group next Monday, thinking about the match in Vitoria. Even so, his participation against Alaves is still not guaranteed.

There is also concern around Alejandro Grimaldo. The player felt discomfort in his quadriceps this Tuesday while warming up with Spain's substitutes on the pitch at Sanchez-Pizjuan. Pending the corresponding tests, he could be released from the national team camp and return to Majadahonda to determine precisely the extent of that discomfort.
