Quique Sánchez Flores offered reassuring news at the end of the match. The coach explained that Mañas had already regained consciousness, but the player will have to remain under observation and undergo different tests with the aim of ruling out a serious injury.

The incident happened in stoppage time. The attacker for Alavés went in hard at the far post to try to finish off a cross from Valentini, but he ended up colliding violently with Salinas. The head impact left Mañas disoriented, struggling to keep his balance and with a visible blow on his forehead.

Medical assistance rushed onto the pitch right away. Although he initially seemed reluctant to leave the field, he was eventually treated for several minutes and left El Sardinero on a stretcher amid applause from the fans.

Mañas had barely been able to play seven minutes. Sánchez Flores had brought him on in the 86th minute in place of Ángel Pérez, looking for attacking alternatives to try to level the match against Racing.

His presence against Valencia, very complicated

The next league game for the albiazul side will be on Tuesday against Valencia at Mendizorroza. With just 72 hours of margin and after a blow of this kind, his participation looks seriously in doubt, although it will depend on the medical tests and how he evolves.

The incident also triggered the concussion protocol, which allows for an additional substitution. Alavés were therefore able to make a sixth change, and Miguel Rodríguez was the player chosen to take part in the final moments of the match.
